Korea's GDP grew 1.0% in Q3 while real income jumped 3.4%, Bank of Korea says
South Korea's real gross domestic product grew 1.0% in the third quarter of 2026 from the previous quarter, according to the Bank of Korea's advance estimate published on 27 October. Compared with a year earlier, GDP rose 3.4%.
The same release shows a much larger move in income. Real gross domestic income (GDI) rose 3.4% from the previous quarter and 18.8% from a year earlier.
The headline release gives only these totals; the expenditure and industry breakdown is in the bank's attached file.

What it means
When real income grows several times faster than real output, the difference is mostly terms of trade: the prices Korea gets for its exports have risen much faster than the prices it pays for imports, so the same volume of production buys more. For an economy whose exports are dominated by semiconductors, that is consistent with chip prices rather than chip volumes doing most of the work. An 18.8% annual rise in real income is the kind of number that feeds tax revenue, corporate profits and the current account well before it shows up in hiring — and it can reverse just as quickly if export prices turn.
